Day 2: Echo Valley & Sagada’s Hanging Coffins

Take note that these photos were taken two years ago, January 2018, during my first trip to Sagada. 😉

Perhaps, one of the most popular attractions in Sagada is the Echo Valley and its famous hanging coffins. Tourists would usually take the Echo Valley tour first due to its fairly easy trail and spectacular scenery, from limestone rocks to lush pine trees. The trek starts from St. Mary’s Cathedral, then past the public cemetery. From there, it’s a downhill trek to the hanging coffins.

Elders and locals believe that hanging a coffin on a mountain cliff or rock is to bring the deceased closer to heaven.
